Blender MCP server
Last verified: 2026-09
Drive Blender from a model.
Community Developer tools Needs a secret Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code, VS Code
What it does
ahujasid/blender-mcp. A Blender addon opens a socket; the MCP server (uvx blender-mcp) sends commands so the model can inspect and change the scene. Blender has to be running.
It sits in Developer tools: Split this category in two.
Good for
- List objects in the open .blend while Blender is running.
- Create or tweak a simple mesh from a prompt, then you inspect it.
- Run Blender Python only after you have seen inspect tools work.
- Turn on safe mode so execute is constrained.
Tools
- scene / object inspect — What is in the .blend.
- create / modify / execute — Add objects or run Blender Python. Exact names follow the addon version.
Config (Claude Desktop / Cursor / Windsurf)
Paste the JSON below. Same mcpServers shape. Replace placeholder paths and secrets.
Windows paths look like C:\\Users\\you\\project, not /path/to.

One-liner: uvx blender-mcp
Secrets it wants: Blender addon connection
How to get started
- Install the addon from the repo, enable it, note host/port (default localhost).
- Run uvx blender-mcp and leave Blender open.
- Ask it to list objects in the current scene before any destructive execute.
Access risk
execute can run arbitrary Blender Python. That is code execution on your machine. Safe mode exists — use it.
When to skip it
Skip it if you only need a screenshot of a model, or if the DCC is Unity.
Instead: Unity, Filesystem, Sequential Thinking.
Vs alternatives
| Server | Official? | Needs a secret? | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blender | No | Yes | Drive Blender from a model. |
| Unity | No | Yes | Talk to a running Unity editor. |
| Filesystem | Yes | No | Read and write files inside a folder you choose. |
| Sequential Thinking | Yes | No | A scratchpad that forces the model to break work into steps. |

FAQ
Does Blender have to be open?
Yes. The addon opens a socket (default localhost). uvx blender-mcp talks to that port.
Is execute arbitrary code?
Yes — Blender Python on your machine. Use safe mode. This is not a docs server.
Blender or Unity?
Blender for DCC/scene. Unity for a running editor on a game project.
Headless?
The usual path is a desktop Blender with the addon. Read the repo if you want a pipeline.
